StreetScope

Mobile sensing holds tremendous promise as a means of efficient, low-cost sensing of the world around us. One particularly compelling example of this is the street-level imagery offered today by Google Street View, which collects its imagery using a mobile sensor approach. The next step in this direction would be to offer frequently updated, or even real-time Street View imagery. However, due to the cost of operating dedicated mobile sensing vehicles, this level of service is only achievable using participatory sensing, where sensors opportunistically take advantage of existing mobility.

The objective of this project is to investigate the feasibility and performance of a shared communication, storage and query management substrate for participatory vehicular sensing.
