Research Proposals

  • Networking: Loss-balanced multicast in all-optical WDM networks.
  • Networking: Complementary-combined wavelength converter and splitter placement for optical network planning.
  • Networking: Traffic grooming for efficient group multicast in hybrid optical-electronic networks.
  • Communication: Wireless CDMA signal reception combining adaptive antenna array and interference cancellation.

Research Accomplishments (Phd phase):

My PhD research in optical networking focuses on the service provisioning to support bandwidth-intensive collaborative applications in optical networks. Specifically, two types of collaborative applications are studied: multicast and groupcast. In multicast, a single traffic source simultaneously delivers traffic to a set of destinations; while in groupcast, a group of nodes concurrently share common traffic streams that may originate from any arbitrary subset nodes of the group. To effectively provision the collaborative applications, both network planning and resource allocation are dealt with. (Click here for details)

The summary of my PhD dissertation can be found here.

Research Topics that I Plan to Investigate:

1.      Multi-layer IP/WDM traffic engineering and signaling/control

2.      Network service reliability and survivability

3.      Ad Hoc and wireless sensor networks

4.       Physical/MAC layer design for 3G/4G systems
