It's summer, 1am, and I'm not supposed to be doing this

Amir, June 24

Just a couple of days ago I thought I had everything going for me, and today I'm not so sure I know where I'm heading any more. I guess this is a typical electrical engineering student's summer blues.

I tried to get an internship this summer and couldn't. High GPA, interesting resume, sending emails every where, job-fairs - didn't work. Well, to be honest, I tried hard about two months before summer, and when it didn't work I stopped. I thought I might try other things, and then I found something, undergraduate research.

So now I'm taking ECE 311 which I like, I'm doing undergraduate research in the Nano Tech Facility which sounds fabulous, and I'm workin on the IEEE webpage planning for a super next semester. So everything is going my way, except that during the weekend I talked to few friends that had succeeded in finding internships, and, what can I say? I want to do REAL STUFF TOO.

The real lucky ones are those who find an internship still being freshman or juniors. These guys work, learning from the real thing, then study, and then they have yet another chance to work again the following summer. By the time they graduate they're almost professionals that have an good idea of what it's all about! Man, I'd give a lot to have that now.

But I don't like to complain (even though I am); life is not a race (even though it is). We reach the finish line alone, I know. Summer in Chicago is great and the water in the lake is getting warmer by the day. Come to think of it, I'm pretty happy with this new blog site; I hope it takes off. So I guess I'm not really wasting my time after all; it's just a tipycal electrical engineer's summer blues.
