Every semester members must fulfill the requirement of four service hours in order to remain active. Initates must finish four service hours in order to be inducted into Eta Kappa Nu. For every unfulfilled hour, a deficit hour will be carried over to the next semester which must be taken care of to regain active status. Service hours must involve at least two hours of tutoring. In order to wear a HKN stole at graduation and have HKN on your transcript, you must complete the required service hours and all deficit hours during your last semester at UIC. In addition, members and initiates must attend at least two general meetings.
